The future of public mobility hinges on key factors such as providing high-quality information via open data and integrating a modern digital ticketing system. However, a significant improvement stems from the ability to seamlessly integrate points of interest (POIs) from the Open Data Hub into search queries without requiring precise addresses. Simplifying this process transforms the passenger experience and broadens the appeal of public transport data platforms, marking a significant leap forward in the evolution of open data mobility solutions.
Südtirolmobil is a key application that is shaping the open data public mobility landscape in South Tyrol. It has evolved by introducing an innovative feature that makes life easier for users: the ability to search for points of interest (POIs) using data from the Open Data Hub. With a focus on real-time access to open data, this innovation enhances the passenger experience by enabling users to explore their surroundings more effectively using POIs in smart search queries. This new feature benefits both locals and tourists by providing intuitive access to public transport data.
Go to the südtirolmobil webportalFocusing on improving user-friendliness, Südtirolmobil uses data from the Open Data Hub to enhance its trip planning capabilities, particularly for tourists who are more familiar with landmarks and open tourism datasets than with specific bus stops or addresses. This integration enriches the mobility data experience and facilitates a more seamless and convenient journey for all users of the app, thereby contributing to the success of South Tyrol’s data-driven transport system.
The Bingo Project is a pioneering initiative in the field of public mobility in South Tyrol. Led by Südtiroler Transportstrukturen AG (STA) on behalf of the South Tyrol province, it is a multi-year digitalisation project. The project’s main goal is to lay the groundwork for open data systems that enable communication between different local public mobility stakeholders. Adhering to open standards such as NeTEx, SIRI and GTFS ensures an interoperable data ecosystem. This approach is in line with the European data space vision and the mobility data space initiative. A key outcome of the Bingo Project is the development of digital information channels, including a web portal and native mobile apps, all operating under the Südtirolmobil/Altoadigemobilità brand. These channels have real-world applications and have become some of the most widely used mobility data-sharing solutions in the region. The project has transformed how people access and interact with public transport systems in South Tyrol.
Both Südtirolmobil and the Open Data Hub are committed to advancing data-driven public mobility in South Tyrol. These initiatives aim to simplify travel, provide high-quality transport datasets and make public transport services more appealing, thereby improving the quality of life for residents and visitors to the region.
